Minoprio Foundation

The Lombardy Center for the enhancement of Floriculture, Fruit-growing and Horticulture - School of Minoprio, commonly referred to as Fondazione Minoprio, is a nonprofit organization engaged in training and research in the fields of horticulture, gardening and conservation. Its purpose is to advance production, exchange and knowledge in the fields of floriculture, fruit-growing and horticulture through scientific and agronomic initiatives, also in collaboration with domestic and international organizations and universities.

Fondazione Minoprio is located in Vertemate con Minoprio, in the province of Como. Its headquarters are in the eighteenth century Villa Raimondi surrounded by botanic gardens featuring representatives of valuable plants, in addition to a vast collection of trees and shrubs. The estate which covers 60 hectares, used for production, education and research, includes educational centers and student residential accommodation.

The Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors. The members of the Board of Directors include representatives from the Lombardy Regional Government, Fondazione Cariplo and other Associations, Organizations and Institutions.

The objectives of Fondazione Minoprio are:

•    Providing education and specialist courses in fruit-growing, horticulture and gardening;
•    Carrying out research and experiments in floriculture, horticulture, fruit-growing and conservation;
•    Promoting production, exchange and knowledge advancements in the field of floriculture, fruit-growing and horticulture through scientific and agronomic initiatives, also in collaboration with domestic and international organizations and universities;
•    Organizing and maintaining collections of plants, including plants that are indigenous to or of special interest for the region, for the purpose of preserving germoplasms, studying, testing, educating and disseminating knowledge
•    Communicating and promoting knowledge and conservation through publications, seminars, conferences and meetings.
