We work to create conditions that help people living with disabilities to improve their autonomy and enhance their quality of life. We promote interventions that strengthen people’s self-determination, support families, improve accessibility to services and encourage the construction of more welcoming, competent and inclusive communities.

Building inclusive contexts that support journeys in life

The local areas in which we operate have complex needs related to disabilities, involving educational, social, housing and employment aspects. Approximately 500,000 people with disabilities live in Lombardy and in the provinces of Novara and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and are often excluded from cultural, working and interpersonal opportunities. This mandate challenge aims to strengthen the capacities of local systems to welcome and support people with disabilities throughout their lives, by creating enabling contexts to focus on people and reduce the barriers that hinder participation and access to opportunities.

Towards Independence: an approach to leverage skills, ties and community

Through Towards Independence, we want to create opportunities for everyone to choose, participate and contribute to community life, with the support of competent and integrated services. Communities can then become somewhere where vulnerabilities do not result in exclusion but instead receive shared and co-ordinated responses that take action in terms of individual ability and proximity networks, and offer personalised housing, educational and employment solutions.
