Youth and employment: SRR, ready for another stint

More than 20,000 youths involved, over 2,500 young adults trained during Startup School, over 400 business ideas pitched and 80 startups created thanks to Startup Revolutionary Road 2013. Fondazione Cariplo, Microsoft and Fondazione Filarete kept their promises providing targeted training and true employment opportunities in the first year of this program. In times that are increasingly tough for young people, with youth employment in Italy being up 5% on the previous year to 41%, the targets for 2014 are: reaching another 42,000 youths and creating 900 new jobs. For the second year in a row the program is getting Microsoft’s support under YouthSpark, the company’s global initiative to empower young people with opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship. While in its first year the program mostly involved youth from the North of Italy, greater engagement of southern Italy’s universities as well as greater participation by female students are being pursued for the second year. The 2014 program can count also on Italia Camp that has joined Fondazione Filarete, TechGarage, Milan Polytechnic Foundation, Turin Polytechnic incubator for innovation and entrepreneurship I3P, and InnovAction Lab, to help start-uppers build innovative businesses and create new employment opportunities.
