Youth, welfare and well-being: our priorities going forward
In its latest Multi-year Framework Plan Fondazione Cariplo redesigned its strategic action for the coming years focusing on three key areas:
- Youth (education and training for human capital development, employment)
- Community-based welfare engaging citizens for their active participation
- Well-being of individuals (physical, social and relational well-being, especially for the elderly and other vulnerable population groups)
The Foundation will re-direct the actions taken so far to focus on the three macro-themes above. Additional efforts will be directed to pursue the building of a new community-based welfare system that has now become a pressing need owing to dwindling public funding; the well-being of individuals (e.g. the elderly) for improved quality of life and environmental sustainability; and last but not least, helping the youth by trying to redress the current disadvantages faced by the younger generations.
“The Foundation will work in all four philanthropic areas taking a cross-discipline approach to meet set goals via calls for proposals and specific projects, engaging players in the field” said Giuseppe Guzzetti, President of Fondazione Cariplo.
The Foundation’s Steering Board also approved a €147.4 million budget for philanthropic activities in 2014 with grant-making remaining stable at about €145 million over the next three years.
President Guzzetti added that “budgets are conservatively set, as resources are connected to the performance of invested assets which is difficult to anticipate. In these hard times we have preserved the value of our assets, actually, we even managed to grow them compared to their balance at the beginning of 2013. In these past few years – continued President Guzzetti – we have always managed to award greater funds than budgeted, keeping the level of grant-making high and stable.”
The Foundation’s assets have grown to €7.2 billion as a result of a rigorous, disciplined management approach that has ensured grant-making continuity and stability.
