{"id":12414,"date":"2025-12-15T09:34:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T08:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fondazionecariplo.it\/?post_type=progetto&#038;p=12414"},"modified":"2026-04-22T19:43:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T17:43:55","slug":"agrieco","status":"publish","type":"progetto","link":"https:\/\/www.fondazionecariplo.it\/en\/progetto\/agrieco\/","title":{"rendered":"AgriECO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Progetto AgriECO<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in 2021, the AgriECO project was created to&nbsp;<strong>encourage the ecological transition in agri-food systems<\/strong>, integrating&nbsp;<strong>environmental and social objectives<\/strong>. Through a multi-year strategy, the project aims to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>enhance the\u00a0<strong>competitiveness of agricultural systems from a sustainable perspective<\/strong>\u00a0and improve <strong>working conditions<\/strong> in the local areas involved\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>facilitate farmers in the\u00a0<strong>conservation and protection of habitats<\/strong>\u00a0linked to production activities and, more generally, in\u00a0the <strong>management and care of the land<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>encourage approaches inspired by <strong>agro-ecology<\/strong>\u00a0and the <strong>circular economy<\/strong>, oriented towards\u00a0the <strong>protection of agro-biodiversity<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:80px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AgriECO pathway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first year, AgriECO supported&nbsp;<strong>training<\/strong>&nbsp;initiatives for farmers and young agronomists, contributing to the launch of <strong>Accademia Ca&#8217; Granda<\/strong>&nbsp;and the course to become an <strong>environmental agricultural trainer<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2022, with a budget of \u20ac500,000, the strategy has focused on the&nbsp;<strong>sustainable development of agricultural districts&nbsp;<\/strong>in Fondazione Cariplo&#8217;s catchment area. In Lombardy and in the provinces of Novara and VCO, agricultural districts occupy a significant share of mountainous areas and used agricultural land (UAL), involving a significant proportion of livestock farms in the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To explore the territorial framework further, the Foundation has funded an analysis of the districts by the&nbsp;<strong>CREA Centre for Policies and Bioeconomy<\/strong>, highlighting needs and opportunities for intervention, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>improvement of the\u00a0<strong>connection<\/strong>\u00a0between districts and other economic entities in the supply chain\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>acknowledgement of the added value of agricultural production\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>promotion of <strong>climate change adaptation<\/strong>\u00a0strategies\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>strengthening of supply chain\u00a0<strong>co-operation<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>reward<\/strong> systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In October 2022, the first&nbsp;<strong>call to action<\/strong> was published, which selected two agricultural districts: the&nbsp;<strong>Casalasco Viadanese organic district<\/strong> and the&nbsp;<strong>San Colombano hill district<\/strong>. Since March 2023, these organisations have embarked on a pathway of support to define intervention plans aimed at sustainable development, with attention to agricultural multifunctionality, enhancement of ecosystem services and strengthening of competitiveness. The plans, approved by the Foundation, kicked off in March 2024 and will be implemented over the course of two years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:80px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AgriECO 2.0 and new lines of work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>New opportunities have emerged from many years of experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to improve the <strong>integration<\/strong> and <strong>coherence<\/strong> of the philanthropic strategy in the agricultural sector<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to enhance the\u00a0<strong>interpersonal capital<\/strong> built<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to strengthen\u00a0<strong>collaborations<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>synergies<\/strong>\u00a0between the various entities working in the environmental and agricultural fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, phase 2 \u2013 <strong>AgriECO 2.0<\/strong> \u2013 began, focusing on organisations with experience in training, raising awareness and policy advocacy in the agricultural sector. Through a call for expressions of interest, key players will be selected to take part in a participatory planning process, aimed at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>facilitating the\u00a0<strong>emergence of collaborative proposals<\/strong> between bodies active in the agricultural and environmental sectors, thus strengthening co-ordination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fostering the <strong>integration between different visions\u00a0<\/strong>of agriculture and sustainability-oriented\u00a0<strong>practices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuing to this day, interventions are in development, aiming to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>enhance\u00a0<strong>training and knowledge transfer<\/strong> with agro-ecology in mind<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>construct <strong>national dialogue between agricultural networks, environmentalism and civil society<\/strong>\u00a0to guide agri-food choices and policies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>promote <strong>more sustainable farms<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>animal welfare<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:80px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Updates 2025\u20132026: work in progress on phase 3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2025, the AgriECO project has witnessed the launch of its third phase, which focuses on three lines of work that integrate environmental and social objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Food districts<\/strong>: a new stage of support for two food districts, to define intervention plans consistent with the Foundation&#8217;s lines of mandate, to strengthen the sustainability of production and improve the organisation of supply chains with sustainability in mind.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Social agriculture<\/strong>: network analysis to identify needs and resources, development of skills for operators and new support tools to ensure stable local networks. The results will be presented at Metropoli Agricole 2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Work in agriculture<\/strong>: initiatives to promote decent employment, improve conditions and protection, and combat distortions that weaken the quality of work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:80px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"lanci-interni-block\">\n    <div class=\"lanci-interni-container lanci-count-1\">\n                    <div class=\"lancio-item\" style=\"background-color: #EDF5FF;\">\n                <div class=\"lancio-content\">\n                                            <span class=\"lancio-small-label\">AgriECO portal<\/span>\n                                        \n                                            <p class=\"lancio-title\">Online since November 2025, the AgriECO portal adds structure to returning the results of the initiatives supported by Fondazione Cariplo in the agricultural sector.
