For the year 2009 the Foundation reported an increase in net assets of €317.7 million. In 2009, the Foundation awarded €186.4 million to fund 1,054 nonprofit projects in its main program areas: the environment, arts and culture, scientific research and social services. Owing, among other things, to the recovery in asset management, 2009 grant flow was essentially in line with pre-crisis levels. Financial resources for social care, social integration and social cohesion were stepped up. The Steering Board also appointed new members of the Board of Directors and the Board of Statutory Auditors.

February 22, 2008 - Today, Fondazione Cariplo received the C2E (“Committed to Excellence”) certification by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), a nonprofit organization geared to promote excellence in management across Europe.
The Fondazione chose the EFQM model for Excellence as the tool to guide the implementation of both a process of continuous improvement and the principles of Knowledge Management, which is the organizational model that the Foundation relies on in its effort to become a Knowledge Creating Foundation.
Over 30,000 organizations rely on the EFQM method whose "Levels of Excellence" program was set up to give these organizations European-wide acknowledgement of each step they take in the journey to excellence (C2E is the first of the three steps).
The certification was granted at the end of an articulate process that the Foundation started in January 2007 by launching 6 improvement projects that were designed as a result of the initial, self-assessment phase.
