SEWF 2015: the social enterprise world forum

The Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) is the world’s leading social enterprise event. Launched in Edinburgh in 2008, after being hosted in different continents, this year it has come back to Europe, to Milan where EXPO 2015 is also taking place. Promoted by the ACRA-CCS Foundation with the collaboration of Fondazione Cariplo and Milan IULM University, the 8th SEWF held in Milan from July 1 to July 3 featured some of the most  interesting voices and most innovative experiences in the social enterprise sphere from  Italy, Europe and the rest of the world. The Forum provided a valuable opportunity for discussion and learning for social enterprises, policy makers, practitioners, investors and the philanthropic community.

The theme of the Social Enterprise World Forum 2015 was Growing a new economy. The Forum featured more than 40 work sessions and 170 speakers. A vast number of experiences were presented by people who managed to find original solutions to problems.

These included Michael Green who presented for the first time in Italy the Social Progress Index, an index that measures social progress; Dureen Shanhaz  who created the Singapore Social Stock Exchange; Harish Hande who received the Magsaysay Award, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize, for  Best Social Entrepreneur; Fiza Farhan  named one of the best young female entrepreneurs in the world by Forbes MagazineSonia Grinvalds, co-founder of AFRIpads, Jack Sim, also known as Mr. Toilet, a man who created an enterprise committed to improving sanitation conditions worldwide, especially in poor countries. And Grand Finale with Fondazione Cariplo’s President Giuseppe Guzzetti and the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus.
