Fondazione Cariplo joins #MilluminoDiMeno

Again, this year, Fondazione Cariplo joins “M’illumino di meno” the Radio 2 Caterpillar campaign to promote energy efficiency. The campaign encourages the population to turn off their lights and switch to alternative energy for an entire day. The day will be February 13, 2015.

The campaign is an opportunity for us to take stock of the energy efficiency actions our Foundation has supported over the years through its calls for proposals.

Since 2006 Fondazione Cariplo has given some €20 million to energy efficiency projects, supporting as many as 3,800 energy audits, implementing 862 Sustainable Energy Action Plans and applying for 5 lines of European funding. In addition, through the call for proposals titled “100  energy efficient municipalities using renewable energy”, over the next 3 years our Foundation will strongly incentivize public-private partnership investments in energy efficiency of public buildings and street lighting projects worth €31 million in total.

On the environmental education front, in the past few years our Foundation has channeled its efforts mainly through the call for proposals titled "School 21" geared to improve secondary school education through projects featuring cross-subject programs focused on environmental themes and the collaboration of teachers, students and experts in the field. Since 2011, 123 secondary schools and vocational training establishments in Lombardy have participated in “School 21” projects with programs focused on biodiversity, energy sustainability, land conservation and climate change. Fondazione Cariplo has supported those projects with as many as €2.5 million, facilitating mainstreaming of cross-subject curriculums for children to develop key active citizenship skills.
