Cross Award: 131 contemporary performing art projects from 24 countries

131 contemporary performing art projects from 24 countries around the world. An  outstanding result for Cross, the international performing art competition under the arts and culture residential education and volunteer work program supported by a Fondazione Cariplo’s grant (Call for proposals: Citizens, protagonists in arts and culture). A panel of music and live arts experts selected the shortlist and, then, a jury drawn from members of the public chose the three finalists for the Cross Award.

The three finalists hosted in Verbania from June 28 to July 4, 2015 as part of the Artist Village Festival were:

Dehors/Audela, Rome (Italy) with Plica ex Plica

A duo formed in Rome, Dehors/Audela combine theatre and visual art in their performances, in an incessant  exploration to generate new artistic expressions.

Alexis Blake, USA, with Conditions of an Ideal

Visual artist whose project was centered around the female ideal based on classical sculpture. The performance featured a combination of voice and bodies, and the participation of young athletes and gymnasts from Verbania.

Jacopo Jenna, Florence (Italy) with Choreographing Rappers

Visual artist, choreographer and dancer, Japoco Jenna in his work combines dance and other performing art practices and techniques together with other forms of artistic expression.

The three finalists were hosted at Villa Giulia, Villa Bauer and at the Aenergy Gym, in Verbania-Pallanza, an area with a strong tourist vocation, but that until now has hosted few contemporary performing art events.

The three finalists were judged by a jury made up of 5 leading figures in the Italian artistic and curatorial scene (Lea Vergine, Manuel Agnelli, Yuri Ancarani, Caterina Riva and Tommaso Sacchi) who, on the last day of the Festival, named the final winner.

At the end of the program, the three finalists staged their performance at Villa Giulia in Verbania, Lake Maggiore, Italy, and on July 5, at the Franco Parenti Theatre in Milan.
